Santa Cruz Basilica, situated on Bastian Street, is among the oldest Catholic churches in India and one of the eight revered basilicas in Kerala. It is one of the oldest Catholic churches in India, is a stunning example of Gothic architecture. Built by the Portuguese in 1500, it was consecrated in 1905 and later elevated to a Basilica by Pope John Paul II in 1984 for its historical and artistic value.The church’s beautiful white exterior and two tall spires are striking. Inside, the church is filled with graceful arches, a grand altar, and vibrant paintings, including a replica of the ‘Last Supper.’ The stained glass windows and ceiling paintings add to its charm and beauty.
